In 3rd grade this winter, we studied the Parts of a Flower. In this unit, we discussed how a flower grows, breathes, reproduces and dies. These four characteristics make a flower a living thing, although it does not move like you and me.
Much of the vocabulary was new for the students in English as well as in Spanish, although some words are similar. To practice in class so that the students would remember better, we made small posters of flowers and labeled the parts. Some students brought different flowers from home to demonstrate the differences between each flower. Others drew their own, and simply labeled the parts as they were put in the textbook. This was a fun and creative activity for the kids.
